It is not big enough for the enormous amount of mucous it currently holds. Even the cats are staying away. I'm well on my way to owning the world's largest pile of used tissues. If we were in the States I'm almost certain this would be Roadside Attraction material. I'm very careful to tuck in all the gross so you can't see it from the outside; I'm pretty sure that that alone would convince the FDA or EPA or whoever that my world's largest pile of used tissues was safe to be in the presence of other people. They're all made from recycled paper as well, so I could even promote it as the world's largest pile of used 100% recycled tissues, but somehow that doesn't read well.
Did you know (you non-British people) that ginger ale is solely used as a drink mixer over here? I still find that astonishing. In Canada, everyone (that I know) uses flat ginger ale as a cure-all for flu, chicken pox, measles, laryngitis -- whatever ails you, the ale will cure. And it works. All that gingery goodness, the hint of a protective syrupy coating, the last breath of carbonation popping gently away at all that bad bacteria.
I had left a small amount in a glass to flatten over night (my arms felt too puny to actually pour it back and forth between glasses to flatten, like my dad did when I was a child) and this morning Matthew threw it out. He threw out my medicinal flat ginger ale. It would never hold up in court over here, so I didn't do anything, but seriously. Who throws out flat ginger ale when there's one of the mucous-ridden in the house? It's a good thing he used his non-puny man arms to decarbonate my next glass. That sort of negligence can be a deal-breaker.

Hope the ginger ales kicked in and that you're feeling better.

Oh no! Sorry to hear you're feeling crappy. I love ginger beer - I don't know if there's any difference between ginger ale and ginger beer but Fentiman's botanical ginger beer is goooood, really spicy and yummy.
Get well soon! xx

I also have the lurgy and have to say I swear by sticky black treacle gingerbread!

Ginger ale also used, in this household at least, as all-purpose pregnant lady drink. Good for nausea, and also good for pretend cocktails. Just put a cherry in. :-)
Note to RedScot - ginger beer also good, but completely not the same thing as ginger ale. Much more gingery.

You poor thing! You need to move to Scotland - we have ginger beer (as in the fizzy pop, not anything more 'fun') aplenty! But we also have Irn Bru, which is our equivalent of the cure-all. Get well soon!

I have a bountiful supply of Canada Dry in my cupboard, which is just as well, because I have tonsillitis at the moment! Ack! So lame.
Hope we both feel better soon. xx

Ginger ale rocks! And it's so true. I think it's flat mostly because it's in a cup on the bedside table sitting out, overnight or what have you.

Get well soon, sweetie. I can't stand ginger ale but do like boiled lemonade when I'm unwell.

Ginger ale totally cures just about everything! Although growing up, ginger ale being considered rather fancy, we just had plain old Sprite. (Maybe ginger ales wasn't available readily in the local supermarket?) Hope you feel better soon!

good to know for americans - I don't think I'd ever heard of this cure before! I'll try it...

Two things: My mom just went to visit my brother across the country and ended up very sick with a cold. My brother, being stubborn, said he's not afraid of any germs and even handled her dirty tissues to make a point. Guess who is extremely sick now? Ha!
Also, I had never heard of using ginger ale for such things. Actually, I never even noticed the word "ginger" in the drink name. I will have to try it, but why does it have to be flat?
